Bacterial endocarditis is an infection of the inner surface of the heart caused by bacteria that is often found in the mouth, internal tract or urinary tract. The infection can lead to serious medical condition which will require a prolonged treatment and any instance it can also produce injury to the heart and even death.
Endocarditis occurs when bacteria grow on the edges of a heart defect or on the surface of an abnormal valve when the bacteria enter the bloodstream. With untreated gum infection, pockets are formed giving access to the bacteria to the blood stream.
Endocarditis is prevented by taking an antibiotic. Gum and oral heath care is also essential, keeping bacteria away is important to prevent gum infection and its effects such as bacterial endocarditis.
