The Effects Of Vitamin and Nutrition Deficiency: Gum And Mouth Disease

Gum and mouth disease are common with people who lacks nutrients that are included in their diet, the most common nutrients includes Vitamin C and Niacin. Vitamin and nutrient deficiency disease can affect the oral health which can lead to bleeding gums, gingivitis and receding gums.

With vitamin B deficiency, the tongue may get red and swollen, cracks in the lips and at the corners of the mouth may also appear. And with vitamin C deficiency, petechia can occur and it is is a small red or purple spot on the body, caused by a minor hemorrhage that can appear in the oral cavity. Having the condition bleeding gums may be experienced. Lack of calcium can result into hypoplastic enamel or a poorly mineralized enamel which is also similar to osteoporosis, thus can eventually result to tooth loss.

Nutrition deficiency is also experienced by individuals whose food intake have been compromised by certain conditions such as oral cancer, AIDS or radiation treatments.

It is important to have foods that are are rich in vitamins and nutrients for it is one way of preventing against gum diseases and combined with proper oral health hygiene. Periodontal diseases such gingivitis and receding gums may also arise an effect of nutrition and vitamin deficiency, and with these case your dentist will be great help giving you the right gingivitis and receding gums treatments. However, it is still necessary to see your dentist at least twice a year for check ups and professional cleanings.
